Season 2, Episode 7

“The 20-Something Life” is the radio show that gives stories and advice for twenty-first century twenty-somethings. In this episode, host Colenn Berracasa talks with Los Angeles-based comedian Igor Hiller about what being a comedian actually entails, making Little Caesars commercials for BET, creating The Kids Table, taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCB), improv vs. scripted work, whether being funny changes over time, still thinking stuff is funny even after analyzing comedy all day, the need for a (somewhat) unrealistic ego, philosophy of happiness and careers, deciding to not go to law school after over a decade of preparation, privilege, reading sociological theory on comedy for fun in college, writing “Dear Igor,” dealing with offensive topics in comedy, how the audience affects the performance, words of wisdom from Ira Glass, grit, how to get jobs in the industry in LA, Igor’s crazy story of missteps in trying to get into the comedy business, and why it’s important to contact people you admire.
