“The 20-Something Life” is the radio show that gives stories and advice for twenty-first century twenty-somethings. In this episode, host Colenn Berracasa talks with Los Angeles-based comedian Igor Hiller about what being a comedian actually entails, making Little Caesars commercials for BET, creating The Kids Table, taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCB), improv vs. scripted work, whether being funny changes over time, still thinking stuff is funny even after analyzing comedy all day, the need for a (somewhat) unrealistic ego, philosophy of happiness and careers, deciding to not go to law school after over a decade of preparation, privilege, reading sociological theory on comedy for fun in college, writing “Dear Igor,” dealing with offensive topics in comedy, how the audience affects the performance, words of wisdom from Ira Glass, grit, how to get jobs in the industry in LA, Igor’s crazy story of missteps in trying to get into the comedy business, and why it’s important to contact people you admire.

In today’s episode, host Colenn Berracasa talks with Omer Harari about transferring to UCSB, joining KCSB even before classes started, meeting Josh Redman (host of 5…4…3…2…fun on KCSB), being music director at KCSB, hosting public affairs and music shows, why community radio, the IV Housing Co-ops, the IV Food Co-op, Food Not Bombs, going through a year and a half of chemo therapy at the beginning of college, grad school at Haifa University in Israel for a master’s degree in peace and conflict management studies, writing a thesis on protests and social movements, working for opendemocracy.net, moving to Lyon, France to live with his partner and write his master’s thesis, learning Spanish in France, how to make new friends in a new country, thinking about the meaning of activism, and advice for recent college grads.
